My mother is an enormous, huge Paul McCartney fan. She has seen him about three times in concert. Once in the 90’s during the Tripping the Live Fantastic Tour, and then in 2007 (I think), we went as a family (me, both parents, brother and sister-in-law), and I think they went again a couple of years ago.
But this man’s music has been apart of my life since I can remember (and I don’t remember much). Listening to the old records on weekends, and my parents giving me a Beatles cassette that I eventually wore out while singing along and playing the drums with pairs of chopsticks or pencils.
I’ve been listening to his Flowers in the Dirt album a lot lately, and while I recognize that he’s produced better albums than that, it still holds a lot of sentimental meaning for me, because sitting in the car with my mom, singing along to it, it’s some of the few times I remember really feeling connected to her as a kid.
